Doubling Down On Being Human
doubling down on being human
Over the past few months — like every other human — I have been delving into the world of ChatGPT. Like most marketers, I’m intrigued by the thought of expedient content that can be aggregated, distilled, and disseminated.
Sadly, what I have found so far is that the current tools are churning out rote, dead content.
My assistant and I had an AI tool write a post for me, using my own website and some pretty good parameters we selected as a guide, and what came out was a bubble-gummy-overly-optimistic-emoji-laden-vomit-word-puddle that didn’t get used because it was faster for me to copy and paste my own content and finish it off with some additional details.
(That’s why I write solid foundational content for my clients, by the way…so they can copy and paste from their essentials even as their brand evolves.)
To say I’m disappointed in AI content generation would be an understatement. Yet, I’m still fascinated and know that it will evolve.
The point is this:
My clients come to me because they are looking for THEIR VOICE.
They want to find the right words to help their perfect clients find them and truly understand what they do and the outcomes they foster past a simple list of services and indistinguishable language.
They want to do it quickly and effortlessly and be able to tell better stories that compel and make a difference past conversion.
They want to be human AND make money from their work.
Plus as we work together, my clients often discover that marketing itself is actually pretty easy when it is authentic to who they are…
…it’s the other things holding them back from their marketing —
like deeply knowing the transformations they foster,
grappling with their fears of being seen,
coming face-to-face with the barriers of building a business,
and combating those deep-down insecurities about showing up fully and openly in an online world
— that are slightly terrifying and require human care and attention.
If we focus solely on content creation and the amount of time it takes, ChatGPT is an AI-Promised-Land of simplifying and streamlining what many feel is a cumbersome process.
The core issue, however, is that at this time ChatGPT can’t solve the other marketing and business hurdles as it only creates the things that have already been created.
It can only copy, not innovate; I don’t think that’s why most of us started our businesses.
People don’t hire bots that copy a persona, they hire humans who they like, know, and trust.
While ChatGPT may be a quick way to jumpstart your content, it is obvious to those of us who read your posts and take the time to engage with you that it’s not you. Aggregating and recopying will only get you so far before you have to be yourself.
Your voice and vision are the things that your aligned clients are seeking.
No one can define your voice but you.
Slow down.
Get your brand story in order.
Know yourself and take the time to learn how to tell the stories only you can deliver.
Be transformational, not transactional.

Michelle
