Donuts are a feeling, not a calendar date

Time is on your side…

If you missed my email on the art & science of letting go, find it here.

If you’ve known me for a while, you’ve heard me talk about CreativeMornings, Richmond — the monthly, free, cross-industry breakfast lecture series of which I’m Host.

We are an entirely volunteer team that puts on monthly events featuring a local speaker through a global theme (there are chapters around the world with free virtual events, too!)

Over the past 8 years, we’ve built a community of nearly 6K locally, and 150 people on average show up each month to get inspired, motivated, and tap into their creative selves. EVERYONE is creative.

In January, our team got some delicious Country Style Donuts for our free breakfast offering (IYKYK) and some months we offer way healthier options .

Our team members who greeted attendees at the breakfast & coffee table heard a LOT of comments, summed up as such: “Donuts? Are you kidding me? In January? I can’t eat that!!”

We joked as we debriefed last evening in our planning meeting, and made notes to find healthier options in February, but it got me thinking about timing and expectations — and the stories we tell as a society.

In January, we’re supposed to start anew and be refreshed…yet seasonally we’re in a fallow period (and likely tired from the holiday season no matter our relationship to it). Winter urges us to go inward, to quit things — not add expectations and goals indiscriminately.

Whether it’s eating donuts — or embarking on your biggest business goals — you set the timing, not the calendar.

I’ve been in business full-time for 6 years next week, plus the part-time year that came before. (YAY)

If I’ve learned one thing, it’s this:

Trying to control the timing of things (and feeling overwhelmed and trapped by the stories we tell ourselves about how things “should” go within a specific timeframe) is one of the top barriers to making meaningful progress in business — and in life.

I’ve seen it in my own business — and in the hundreds of clients I’ve been lucky enough to help over the past 7 years.

This is why I evangelize peace, and put it into the process when I work with clients. Peace is the first step to CLARITY, which leads to curiosity and confidence to set the strategy that is authentic and aligned to YOU, not a plan given to you by someone else.

I promise that if you come to CreativeMornings in February, there will be some healthier options.

I double promise that if you know deep down it’s time to recapture your voice, tell authentic stories in your marketing to attract your perfect people, refine your strategies to meet your big goals, and you’re ready to make your business feel more like YOU this year, I will help you successfully bring your vision to life.

Here’s to honoring whatever season you’re in now…

xox,

Michelle

P.S.: There are 2 spaces left for Clear, Consistent, Confident Marketing starting in February and I’m doing final enrollments through next week. Book a call if aligned!

P.P.S.: Next month, I’m rolling out new ways to work together. Ready to take action before they go live? Let’s chat.
