Letting go isn’t giving up
Practicing in the Moments
Ooof. What a year this week has been.
If you’re reading this here in Richmond, VA, I don’t have to explain about the water, but if you’re outside of the region and are curious about the havoc wreaked by infrastructure & process failures, here’s a synopsis.
It’s been inconvenient, but not unmanageable; for me, at least…a person who has a whole lot of resources, community, and support.
This isn’t the case for most. Most humans are just one crisis away from losing everything — and community is what keeps us from total catastrophe.
I’m not going to recount the current tragedies of the world, because there are many and you likely know all about them, plus more that I don’t.
Instead, I’m going to offer what I can to help harness attention so we can make meaningful progress on the things that matter.
We’re at a critical point in history right now where devastation is happening all around us, and we know about it, all the time, because of the media at our fingertips.
Our attention is fragmented, and often that fragmentation is what keeps us feeling stuck, depressed, and caught in doom-scrolling instead of being present to take action on the things that count.
So here’s a practice that I use to ground myself when I feel that “out-of-control” feeling (which, let’s be honest, we never really have control… but I’m not trying to add to anxiety!) and need to remember to be here now so I can be available to the communities that are within my sphere of influence and impact.

This practice is also a “two-fer” — and can be used when you’re trying to build a business and get out of your own way to take your next steps.
Lastly, I just want you to notice the word “practice” in the above statements. This isn’t a magic one-and-done thing.
Our lives and legacies are made by the practices we incorporate regularly. We never fully arrive, we are always becoming.
Don’t miss your life by resisting the practices that return you to it.
Xox,
Michelle
